Dr. Vander Lugt wanted to be a physician for as long as he can remember. “Even when I was in elementary school, I told people I wanted to be a doctor,” he commented. Board certified in Family Practice, Dr. Vander Lugt attended Indiana University School of Medicine and completed his residency at Memorial Hospital in South Bend. While in medical school, he found the family practice rotation to be interesting and compatible with how he wanted to practice. “I like the variety of medicine I’m exposed to and the relationships I build with patients,” he said. Dr. Vander Lugt has been with the DeMotte Medical Center since 1990, and he is also the Medical Director at Oak Grove Christian Retirement Village in DeMotte.
